Welcome
to my website.
I'm an art historian, researching & writing
on the history of picture frames, of all periods from the
14th to 20th century. For details of books and articles
on frames, click on the Publications link on the left. You
can now access a pdf file of my article on Pre-Raphaelite
frames there.
Most recent exhibitions of picture frames:
for a show based on the permanent collection, which took
place at the Falmouth Art Gallery from September to November
2011, go to
Falmouth Frameworks.
Past exhibitions of picture frames:
for the 2009 exhibition in Vienna, go to the
Liechtenstein Museum,
and for the 2008 one in Copenhagen see the notice in
Artdaily.org.
The page has been removed for the 2010 exhibition in Munich.
The last picture frame conference,The
Transforming Power of the Frame, was held in New York in
September 2008 (see
Frame Conference 08 ). For the
previous conference, held in Dresden in October 2005, go
to this link:
Frame Conference 05, and for a report
on the papers given, see the National
Portrait Gallery website.
I'm also an artist, specializing in highly finished coloured
pencil drawings: portraits & caricatures, flower & subject
paintings. I work in oils & acrylic as well, and in watercolour
& pen-&-ink. I have exhibited several times at the
Pastel
Society Annual Exhibition and with the
Society of Botanical Artists.
I take commissions for most types
of artwork: I have designed greetings cards, copied Old
Masters, painted murals, created logos & images for
brochures, & produced all sorts of illustrations. I
clean
& restore oil paintings (click here
or on icon at left), and have designed several websites
in addition to this one.
I write poetry and have been published in
Outposts,
Agenda,
Envoi,
Lighten Up Online,
The Shit Creek Review
and
Pulsar.
I have won several competitions, including most recently
the
Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition
for October 2011. Part of my sequence Rosa Mundi
appeared in The
Tablet during May 2010, and the
whole thing has now been published as an illustrated
booklet,
ditto my light verse -
Pandora's Book.
